I'm getting a strange from the ld that links temacs:

     $ build-install
     set EMACS=/extra/compas4a/gag/e/dist-18.52

What is this error about?  The only time I get it is when I try to
install about 5 lines of code in lread.c (including the definition of
a new variable).  If I revert to the distribution lread.c, it goes
away.
