Agreed that Courier is one of the ugliest typefaces on the planet,
but consider for the moment that (in postscript at least) you can 
change the aspect ratio of the font (with the font transformation
matrix) to a plethora of various styles, some of which, are not
bad looking. Especially if you start with Courier-Bold.

Look at the Manual for the Amiga software package _The Director_
for an example. Wee needed a monospaced font, but couldn't abide
Courier.

I'm starting to really hate Helvetica too. It really IS
an ugly font.
