I have been researching FAX transmission for the purpose of making our
satellite datacomm product manage to connect two FAX machines over a
dedicated circuit.  I have (excerpts from) a document: CCITT T.30 which
goes into some detail about the control messages and PIX-format blocks,
but doesn't say much about baud rates or modems, per se.  I rather suspect
that a BELL 212A or its successors won't do the trick, but some smart
(and smart-a*s) modems that do the gamut of European things might.
