Sizes up to ``tabloid size'' can be had on the Linotronic >after the 300, (I can't remember if its a 350, 400, 600 or whataver). There has been a recent (like 2 weeks ago!) upgrade to the PostScript RIP 2 for the Linotronics that eliminates length limitations for all resolutions; you can now go as long as the amount of material left in your input cassette. Previously, L300 users were limited to a maximum page size of 11.7 wide x 12.9 long at hi-res (2540 dpi). You still have the 11.7" limitation (which is a hardware limitation of the recorder) but can go much longer (I have sent out pages over 30" long at hi-res with no problems. If the 11.7" width is a problem, look for a service bureau that has an L500, which can print much wider (one such service bureau is Ries Graphics; they are located near to here in Butler, Wisconsin). The upgrade is a version 49.3 PostScript upgrade (for the RIP 2 ONLY!). For anyone out there who owns/operates a Lino, the upgrade costs $750 from Linotype ($500 if your RIP is under a service contract).
