/ (on which /tmp lives) just filled up while I was in elm, and hordes
of error messages came pouring out from elm and on the console.  When
it was all over my mailbox was empty, and the mail that I was trying
to send was corrupted.  Now, I don't mind the outgoing mail being
corrupted, but it wasn't very nice of elm to destroy my mailbox.  Elm
crew:  CHECK RETURN CODES and if anything like that happens, exit
without modifying the mailbox!!!!
