Orr) Newsgroups: comp.protocols.ibm,comp.misc Subject: IBM 2780/3780 Batch Transfer Keywords: ibm 2780 3780 batch transfer protocol Message-ID: <285@lxn.UUCP> Date: 10 Jan 89 15:49:09 GMT Organization: Alcyone Inc., Bethlehem PA Lines: 92 The following is a list of companies that I dealt with in my search to find a PC board to perform an IBM 2780/3780 BATCH transfer. The board I sought was not one that just provided an RJE connection. Many of these companies do offer a product that gives you this capability, but I specifically required a board capable of unattended batch transfers. I did try to include a litle about each company that I contacted, but since I was not trying to find out general information about each company, my list may be very incomplete in this respect. I hope that this list helps anybody else interested in a PC based product that performs an IBM 2780/3780 batch transfer or anybody interested in companies that market products that perform IBM communciations. If you know of any companies that are not on this list that do offer this product, please contact me so that I can add it to my list. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Winterhalter: Markets a board called "Datatalker" with 1-313-662-1965 software that performs a 2780/3780 transfer. This product is a proven product and works very well, but we have had some trouble using it with hosts running SuperTrax. This problem may wind up to be a hardware problem however. Technical support at this company is exceptional. Icot Corp: This company (formally called Pathways Design) 1-800-343-0515 offers a product called pcPATH. They offer both hardware and software support for their product. They offer 2780/2780, SNA, Bysnc, as well as other products. I have not seen this product but the gentleman I spoke to convinced this doubter that it is a very good product. AST Research: Offers a board called the AST-3780 board. 1-214-702-0388 I have not seen the board so I cannot give you any feedback on the quality of the board and its technical support department. Arkansas Systems: This company will set up your system to 1-501-227-8471 perform this transfer, but they use the AST-3780 board to do it. They have told me that if the AST-3780 board did not work, they do perform contract development work. In other words, they will build a board with appropriate software for you for a development cost. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The following companies do not offer an IBM 2780/3780 batch transfer product, but are included in this list to indicate those companies already researched. Barr Systems: Does not offer 2780/3780. They do offer a 1-800-BARR-SYS product called BARR/HASP (the SNA version is BARR/SNA RJE). It does 3777-3, 8100 and 3790 emulation. EMULEX Corp: These people market hardware that is capable 1-714-662-5600 of performing this transfer, but do not market any software nor have I found any third party software that makes use of the board. Rabbit Corp: They do not offer such a product but do offer 1-215-647-0440 other products performing such things as IBM 3270 emulation with a HLLAPI interface. DCA: These people do not offer such a product but 1-404-442-4000 do offer other communication products. BlackBox Corp: Does not offer a 2780/3780 product. IBM: IBM does not offer a product (at least that the people in Texas know about) to perform this transfer from a PC. UDS: Based in Huntsville, Alabama. I did not contact this company. Cleo: Based in Chicago, IL. I did not contact this company. -- Christopher D.
