Tom,
  I have an Imagewriter hooked up...with a normal RS232 cable and
a NULL modem.  Be sure NOT to connect the power pins (I'm
not near Amiga books, so can't tell you those now.)  

  Of course, if your Imagewriter does not have the normal 
25 pin connector..  this won't help much.  The Imagewriter
I have is from an Apple Lisa. :-)
