I traded it for a while with a friend who couldn't get it to work on his PS/2 (it said 'no DSR' and my modem worked fine, so I'm letting him use it. It's a dumb modem so nothing hayes really applies to IT) I'm having some small problems with the Hayes though: 1) a minor annoyance is a relatively loud 60 Hz hum coming out of the speaker. Anyone know what causes this one? It's not affecting performance. 2) My friend doesn't have a manual for the Hayes, just a brief list of switch settings. I don't get any output from the modem, no matter what I do, as far as replies like 'on line' and echoing of my commands. I tried setting the switch he has listed as 'echo commands on screen' but this makes no difference. One switch (switch 4) causes both the SD and RD lights to light up when I type commands but it still doesn't show up on the screen (the commands work though, in either position). my current switch settings (switches 1-7 accessible removing the front panel): up down down up up up up down (it's not marked which is on and which is off) Can anyone give me quick settings which will make this work right with my //c? It works ok not but not RIGHT. Please mail replies directly to me if possible. Andy ART100@psuvm.bitnet
