First, I want to thank those who pointed out that AT&D2 is needed in Hayes
mode to get the modem to hang up.

The new problem: I can't get an AT&T 2224 modem to answer in Hayes mode.  S0
is set to 1 (answer on one ring), all switches are down, DTR is on, and all
lock files are cleared from /usr/spool/uucp.  But still the caller rings and
rings without my modem answering.  Is this fixable or is my modem brain dead?
