Due to a change in buffer management from 7974/78 to 7979/80, and a
doubling of the buffer size, if you open the /dev/*mt* device at anywhere
but BOT, it will result in a time-out error every other time on s500.

Changes to the mt driver have been proposed for 5.3.  Meanwhile, the
7974AR and 7978BR are available as remanufactured products from HP FRD.
