I received one response which shed significant light on the problem, and am posting it here for all to see. The symptoms of my problem were the graphics came out on the printer ok, but were approximately 1/8 longer than they should have been. The problem is being abandoned at this point as I'm simply spending money on new hardware rather than take the time to write any software to try to fix the problem...
