i can't think why the a recent version of lfonts.tex should contain
any reference to a font from the AM series at all.  perhaps Leslie Lamport
happened not to have the CM caps-and-small-caps font at the necessary
magnifications.  i have changed any references to AM fonts to CM equivalents
in all our TeXware, without any apparent ill effects...
i think AMSTeX was another offender in this, so you might
want to check that too.
