Unfortunately, I'm not having much luck getting bootstrapped. Some things appear to work OK: /etc/etheraddr -- prints a 6 field Ethernet ID. This means that the Ethernet card is plugged into the NuBus and is recognized. /etc/hostid -- I can set the hostid to a 32-bit identifier. The next logical step is to configure the interface using /etc/ifconfig. The local node name is 'tesla'. E.g., ifconfig ae6 tesla But it seems that 'ifconfig' always produces the message ifconfig: socket: network is down no matter what arguments I give it. I'm using a thick cable connection from the Mac to a network box (DELNI) that already has lots of nodes connected to it and working. Are there any readers of this group have wise words about what to do now? --Neil McKenzie (mckenzie@june.cs.washington.edu)
