Lines: 64 Technical Support Position Available THE COMPANY Mortice Kern Systems Inc. is a growing Canadian software development and marketing company located in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. MKS is involved in the related fields of software development under contract for large North American corporations and export sales of a proprietary line of software products, developed in house by MKS. MKS provides a dynamic working environment which balances personal challenge with the rewards of success. MKS is in the upper echelon of providers of technical software for DOS, OS/2, and UNIX. MKS corporate offices are located in a heritage building in downtown Waterloo. TECHNICAL SUPPORT The candidate will exhibit the right mix of interpersonal skills and the technical know-how necessary to represent MKS' line of highly technical products. Since the technical support department is the major after-sales contact between MKS and its customers, this position requires a high degree of competence in both areas. Technically, the preferred candidate will possess knowledge of the UNIX utilities, some knowledge of common MS-DOS applications, a understanding of systems programming, and a general problem solving nature. While much of the material may be learned, we require the right background to make the acquisition of this knowledge relatively straightforward. On the public relations side, the candidate will enjoy helping people to solve problems. In addition, liaison with the marketing and sales department is required in order to answer technical questions that occur at the time of product sales. Lastly, trade show involvement will require the candidate to provide technical details in a face-to-face encounter with customers. Some North American travel is involved. OTHER SKILLS The candidate must have good verbal and written skills, including keyboard experience. A high level of organization and the ability to work as part of a team are essential. The candidate must be personable and able to talk to a wide range of people of differing managerial, technical, and geographic backgrounds. Equally important is the ability to listen to callers, find their concerns/needs and quickly respond to each individual. The above responsibilities assume that the candidate is personally well-organized and self-motivated. The candidate will work within the technical staff at MKS and report to the Vice President, Product Development. There will also be a great deal of interaction with the marketing and sales department.
