I happened to see a copy of some of the recent postings in this group.
I was interested to see a request for a generic modem dialer.  If wrote
  a program, DIALER, originally as a front-end for brain-dead UUCP.
  It's available for anyone that wants it.  I've integrated DIALER into
  HDB UUCP, and it seems to work quite well.  DIALER also runs as a standalone
  program, and could more-or-less be trivially integrated into a SLIP
  implementation.
