In fact, it was the Standard ARPANET Operating System. To accomodate its internal format of files, STRU P was defined especially for that purpose. To this day, this is the format that TOPS-20 systems prefer to exchange files. I see nothing wrong with the STRU VMS proposal, although it would be nice if they could use the existing STRU P mechanism if at all possible. I'm a little surprised there isn't a STRU TAR for better Unix file transfers yet... -- Mark -- -------
