One additional dimension that needs to be taken into consideration, though, is personality. I think that this form of communication attracts a certain type of person. For those of you who are familiar with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, I would hypothesize that Introverts (and especially Introverted Thinkers - like me) would be more inclined to use e-mail than other types. I could go on and on (and stretch this idea further and further) but I would rather see if this brief comment sparks any interest before continuing.
