There were some keyboards with some part inside the keyboard (a clip between two boards?) not making good electrical contact. This results in extra characters as you described. There is a simple fix (to the keyboard), but I'm not sure how you go about getting it. Have you tried contacting your HP support organization? Wayne Krone
