I haven't tried this myself, but can't you just set your motherboard switches 
for "No Video Adapter" (i.e. the same way you would to install an EGA or VGA)?
The switch settings should be in the manual (for my clone, they're switches 5
and 6 in the first DIP bank). It's worth a shot, right?
