The problem is rooted in a font conflict. HyperCard's cursors (the hand and the various paint cursors) are stored as characters in a font that the HyperCard application contains. If the ID of this font is the same as the ID of a font installed in the system, weirdness results. The fix is to give HyperCard's font its own FOND resource (which is used by the system to mediate font ID conflicts). The procedure: launch Font/DA Mover. Holding down the option key, click the open button (this lets you access fonts from any file). Locate and open HyperCard. Move the font into another (new) suitcase document. Then move it back to HyperCard. This will bestow a FOND on the font, and should eliminate ID problems.
