The NeXT people were here at Cal Poly yesterday and they said they were trying to work out something like Apple has where they let you pay for your system over X years. This MIGHT put a baseline NeXT in a more student's price range (~$1800/year for 4-5 years). Certainly not a lot more students, but if they could get the price down with more mass production (in time), then it could be affordable.
