Sun does sell a 24 bit frame buffer, the CG8. As of several months ago, it was only available with the 4/110-TC, but it may become a separate product at some point. I don't know if it would be supported in a 3/260, but I don't see why not. There is a company called Tech Source in Florida that sells what looks like a very nice frame buffer with up to 32 bit planes. See the latest Sun Technology magazine for their address.
