Message-ID: <1777@helios.ee.lbl.gov> Date: 27 Jan 89 18:42:46 GMT Sender: usenet@helios.ee.lbl.gov Reply-To: epb@ux1.lbl.gov (EPB Group) Distribution: comp.windows.x Organization: Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, Berkeley Lines: 22 Machine: 4-plane Color Vaxstation 2000 (Vaxstar) with Ultrix 3.0FT2 We have noticed, that, for some reason, if you do an xsetroot -solid instead of just using gray as your root window background, that it takes FOREVER to logout. The server takes much longer to re-initialize itself, and in the meantime, any movement of the mouse will produce the message "Errorlog buffer full: errors missed". >> The procedure takes about 3-4 MINUTES before you get a new login window. << If, instead you do an "xsetroot -grey or -gray" or just leave it at the default (in otherwords, don't select any color except gray) then logging out and getting the new login window just takes about 3-5 SECONDS, not minutes. It must have something to do with the colormap, but I cannot imagine why. We still haven't figured out why we get crazy mouse motion when we try to run the X11r3 server so we have to use DECwindows UWS 2.0 server. X11r3 works fine on our monochrome Vaxstation II, though.
