Just a side note. A-7 Corsair II's carried a pair of Sidewinders.
None were known to be fired in anger. Just an ounce of prevention,
I guess. It probably did make the pilots a bit more comfortable
knowing that they weren't total MiG meat. The A-7 had a gun, too,
but I couldn't imagine such an ugly airplane sneaking up on a MiG :-)
