I am a sendmail-novice trying to poke into the mail management process in sendmail. My objective is to device a mechanism to 'automatically' reroute mail which the mailserver is not able to deliver to the destined-receiver owing to reasons such as: selective refusal to accept mail from our system; hardware problems; receiver-machine down etc. As far as I know sendmail does not provide any support in this regards. At Tulane the system administrator 'manually' changes the R- address (receiver), in the mail (header) that sits in the mailq for 2-3 days for reasons of sendmail not being able to deliver, to a host which accepts mail from us and ultimately forwards it to the destined-receiver. I will appreciate help from the system administrators or any one else out there as to what is being done for this problem on the Internet ! Any references, pointers, other information even someway related to this is welcome. We have a Pyramid system running 4.3 BSD UNIX here at Tulane. HAPPY MARDI GRAS !! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Please send e-mail to jameel@rex.cs.tulane.edu I will also be reading comp.mail.misc,comp.mail.uucp and comp.mail.send -mail
