I worked for 3 years for a company in Houston named SPEECH Enterprises and I wrote a bunch of voice-synthesis/large print programs, all of which used the Echo speech synth. The resources are there, but they are hard to find at times, and back when I worked for them (3 years ago), the Apple II had the best stuff for blind users. -Brian Greenstone
