Generally, if I didn't have problems formatting the disks, I had problems reading/writing the disks after a period of time. (This was with both 3.5" and 5.25" disks.) BTW, I noticed that while you can generally use a good single-sided 5.25" disk as a double-sided disk, using a single-sided 3.5" disk as a double-sided disk doesn't work nearly as well.
