Depending upon what you do with your machine, you can swap the chips to restore a lost function at the cost of another. For instance, my joystick #2 quit working in some directions. I swapped CIAs and joystick operation was restored. The serial port went inop, but if you don't use the machine for telecommunications that shouldn't make any difference to you.
