First, make sure that the folder which has MacWrite 5.01 is write protected. This will guarantee that none of the applications is trying to modify the application without permission. Secend, you don't mention what the LocalTalk network is like. Is it AppleTalk, or PhoneNet cabling? What is the length? What else is running over the net? If the length is too long, or the net is too heavily loaded, you can get timeouts on the AFP packets, which make it look like the application is damaged. (As a note, we are running file servers in our public sites, sharing a single copy of MacWrite 5.01 without a problem (at least specific to MacWrite).)
