When you select Simple Beep in the Control Panel, it actuall plays a snd resource instead of invoking the standard "hard" beep. This hard beep is in the Mac ROMs, so unless you find some way of changing those, you can't change that beep, but all you have to do is select Simple Beep from the control panel and you'll get your beep.
