The problem can be noted by constant movement in the drive. The internal cables with the yellow stripe should have the wire cut or in many cases, the wire is actually missing. That is, the wire is solid plastic and has no wire in it. Also, it has nothing to do with the fact that you had an EXTERNAL drive but that there are different versions of the drive. Assuming you have the old cable, and your drive displays that symptom, you can cut the wires. Counting from the stripe, cut the 9th wire, and the very last wire. As far as I can remember, it is not necessary to reverse this if you go back to the other version drive. Good Luck.
