Whether you use X10, X11, NeWS, or SunView, GNU Emacs has a native interface to the window system that is much more intelligent than that of a general terminal emulator beneath an Emacs that's trying to do its best with the termcap description. Use Emacs in its own window, and you'll likely be pleased with its functionality and performance.
