Scott V. Paterson) Organization: Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH Lines: 20 I have a hobby of creating backdrop/desktop screens for my Macintosh SE. I enjoy making Calvin & Hobbes screens most of all. Last year I purchased two Calvin & Hobbes books (which I highly recommend). I photocopy scenes from the book and then use an Apple scanner to reproduce the line art on the screen. After this, I touch up the scene with some different shading and usually end up with a very pleasing screen. Included on every screen is the cartoonist's signature and my initials. My question is this: Is this practice legal? Am I violating an copyright laws? Can I give these screens away to my friends? thanks very much, -rsvp R. Scott V.
