I'm hitting problems with the lzcmp'd tar'd files, and also with the hard-to-find-mutually- inconsistent documentation in the GNU directory and the TOOLS directory. I used the LZDCMP -B option on EDIST_18_52.TAR_LZW, then (installed and) ran the FILE program to change EDIST_18_52.TAR to FIXED format, 512 byte file, only to get the following results from the TOOLS TARREAD program: $ assign "EDIST_18_52.TAR" TAPE $ tarread ****RENAMED: dist-18.52/ChangeLog TO: ChangeLog CREATED: d_db:[decus.gnu.dist_18] CREATED: d_db:[decus.gnu.dist_18.52] CREATED: d_db:[decus.gnu.dist_18.52]ChangeLog Do you wish to move past the EOF mark ? y/n y End of file encountered $ Yechh. The only file created was [.dist_18.52]changelog. Any suggestions (Other than getting the GNU VMS Backup tape direct from FSF)? Has anyone been able to successfully install EMACS from the V-SP-84 tape? Thanks much. Brendan Fagan fagan@mfci.UUCP (203)488-6090
