Try using the behind-and-to-one-side view, and back out some so you can see more. It took several missions to get the release point down right. If you miss, there may be enough time to return to a landing field and reload a pod. Re mission 6: Don't bother to try and sink the carrier. You only have to shoot down the MiG's that you see (around 4 migs). They usually come in two waves of 2 migs each. Splash them, and you should see the 'return to base, misson accomplished' message.
