WRONG!! Both ports are hardware identical. It's just that the firmware
has been configured to operate #1 as a printer port and #2 as a modem
port. Since I don't use the firmware for serial operations on the //c
(but will on the GS in the future), it doesn't matter what port you
use.

BTW- there was a bug in Z-Link with regard to using any slot other
than #2. This was very recently pointed out to me and I've fixed it.
The repost will go out Friday night sometime.
