It's interresting note that you mention using the unix-y 'tr' filter to place CR and LF in the right place at the right time. For those of us on UNIX systems, the best way without doubt to split large files is the following: 1) Package the world. Ideally, one should be able to pack a *large* set of files, not like Executioner, which chokes on big things. 2) upload to big Unix machine. 3) run though 'split' 4) post on the recieving side, use 'cat' to put it all back together again, download and unpack.
