Just about the only reason the Apple II line is unable to do many things that Ibm and (especially) Mac & Amiga computers can do is because of its VERY slow processing speed. Plus, it does not have complex 16- or 32-bit operations available on-chip. So to compete with a Mac, let's say, it needs an 8 to 12 MHz clock, the Mac's being about 8 MHz.
