MicroEmacs sees the UNIX newline (LF) as an end-of-line and converts it to MSDOS (CR/LF) when it writes the file back out. Will other editors do this as well?? Not very high-tech, but hey, JOVE does this as well. Freemacs doesn't. Although it is very convenient sometimes a *real* character editor probably shouldn't do this. I just have mint function that will do it for me. That way in case I really want a ^J in a line my editor won't make these assumtpions for me.
