The patches which you talked about are currently ONLY available to Certified
Apple Developers.  As it stands now, there is no OFFICIAL OS release that 
supports anything beyond 8-bits.  Apple has announced plans to release a new
32-bit video standard, known as 32-bit QuickDraw, but there is no scheduled
release date.  Also, Apple hasn't announced any 32-bit video card or upgrade.

If you're interest in 32-bit QuickDraw, I'd recommend that you wait until Apple
has officially release the new standard.
