    That's what I thought too, until I realized that the roms have always been
socketed. The only advantage of putting the ROMS  on cards is that you can
easily make them bigger. 256K ->512K etc.

  I seriously doubt that Apple will ever come out with anything called a MacIII
if only for historical reasons.
