I added another 4 MB memory to my Mac II, for a total of 8. I booted A/UX, and got the (reassuring) numbers total memory size 8388608 bytes available memory 7012352 bytes Then I went in to "tune" the kernel parameters and used kconfig -n /unix to set the following: NBUF=2500 NINODE=600 NFILE=400 Upon rebooting, available memory dropped to 4382720. I did a pstat and got "System name list out of date". I heard about the pstat bug, so I dropped NBUF to 999. Now available memory was 6000640. When I reduced NINODE to 200 and NFILE to 200, I got 6078464 available. Can anyone explain what's going on? If anyone with 8 MB of memory has a good set of kernel parameters, could he/she email it to me? -- Charlie Neil (chn@lanl.gov) Los Alamos National Laboratory (505) 665-0978
