I can think of one of two things:

1. you didn't do a MAKEDEV for cgfour0

2. you haven't tried moving the cursor off the screen (left or right). The 
way Sun4 came up for me is unix:0.0 is monochrome and unix:0.1 is color.
To defeat this try

	xinit -- -dev /dev/cgfour0

for color framebuffer only.
