It looks like people are taking wild tangents off Gara's original posting,
I mean the point of arguing the existence of a burger joint or flaming
Americans for being American isn't quite on topic.

Well Gara, I don't look at all like anyone who has even read GQ and I'm a
grad student, so I'm clearly not obsessed with money.  Since this doesn't
directly violate the "interesting" rule (sorry, no new word comes to mind),
would you like to have dinner with me sometime next week followed by a 
play at one of the city's many find theatres?   If you are continentally
inclined we could always do it the other way around.

Now this sort of thing was the original purpose of this newsgroup, wasn't it?
