I would appreciate pointers to speech processing systems (either
public domain or commercial) that are speaker independent and
handle
 apx. 40 words.  (I know this isn't strictly AI anymore
but figured you might have appropriate info).

Also appreciated would be suggestions of where to look;  which
journals or conferences to pay attention to.
