Is there a de-arcer for Unix which can de-arc the files of this news
group (before downloading) ? If so, and someone has this beast, could
you please send me e-mail stating you have it.

DO NOT send it first!! Just send me e-mail saying you have it. I will
send e-mail to you personally requesting it. This method will avoid wasting
bandwidth that multiple sendings would cause.
