   Does anyone out there know of or have a contouring package or a set of
routines written in C that is public domain?  I have used the NCAR CON*
utilities (CONREC, CONRAN, ...), but need something similar written in C.

   Other than that can someone point me at some good references for writing
such routines?  I am looking for a way to nicely present a contour
map (like a topographic map) of any 2d array containing Z values.
