definitions:
    TOPOLOGY: The branch of mathematics dealing with the non-metric properties
	of sets (in contrast to geometry).
    TOPOGRAPHY: The branch of geography dealing with the physical
	characteristics of a place or region (typically, the terrain).

The contour maps you can buy from the USGS are not topological maps,
but TOPOGRAPHIC maps.
