there is a version of 5.58 that i ported to a 3b2 running r3 some time ago.
this might be a good starting point.  it works with WIN/3b.
if you are interested, you can retrieve it from ucsd.ucsd.edu in the 
file "pub/sendmail.cpio.Z".

be sure to disable the DEBUG option before you compile it!
