Before going out and paying large amounts of money for commercial products, I thought I'd try and find out what's in the public domain. So, can anyone point me in the direction of a seriously usable PD compiler for a useful language (e.g. C, modula-2, pascal, ...). Any comments on the equivalent commercial products would be welcome too. As a guide to the kind of thing I've in mind, if I do pay commercial rates, it'll probably be Lattice 5.0 that I'll go for (unless I can convince myself that I can justify the extra for C++) although this is rather expensive for what I'll probably get around to using it for. Sorry if this is an ``old hat'' question to this group, but I've only recently found the group or acquired an amiga 8^). If you prefer, mail your reply and I'll post a summary if anyone's interested. (I'd also be interested in views on disc copiers since I get very nervous when I've paid \pounds 25 for a game and can't make a back-up copy just in case something goes wrong. Sigh, it seems as if the only thing copy protection achieves is to force ``normal users'' to buy extra software to get around it - the pirates that are supposedly the problem already have the software/ability to get around the protection. Any other strong recommendations for the other basics like wordprocessors etc. would also be happily received- anything that can prevent me buying rubbish when someone has found something wonderful is always appreciated.)
